From 12 to 16 January 2026, the WCO Smart Customs Project, funded by China Customs, conducted a study mission to the Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA) in Port Louis, focusing on the application of cloud computing in support of Customs’ digital transformation efforts.

The MRA presented its cloud-computing strategy, aligned with the national digital strategy and data protection legislation. The approach is centred on a private cloud-based architecture, hosting critical systems such as the Customs Management System, while ensuring data sovereignty, system resilience and operational continuity.

The mission reviewed key cloud-enabled applications supporting Customs operations, including risk management, border control and public-private partnerships through cloud-based software solutions.

Key achievements of the mission included the joint development of a cloud-computing case study for inclusion in the 2026 edition of the WCO Study Report on Disruptive Technologies and in the WCO Smart Customs Portal, as well as the MRA’s commitment to participate actively in the WCO Smart Customs Project through its National Contact Points (NCPs).

The mission enhanced understanding of the MRA’s policy as well as its legal and institutional context for digital transformation. Overall, it showcased effective cooperation and knowledge-sharing between the WCO Secretariat and a Member administration.
