WCO Council Approves the Updated Study Report on Disruptive Technologies
- The 147th/148th WCO Council Sessions approved the updated WCO Study Report on Disruptive Technologies (SRDT), a key deliverable of the WCO Smart Customs Project (SCP).
- Ahead of the Council Sessions, the SCP published new Blockchain deliverables, together with four in-depth case studies showcasing the experiences from Brazil, Mauritius, Switzerland and the United Arab Emirates.
Held in Brussels, Belgium, from 25 to 27 June 2026, the 147th/148th WCO Council Sessions marked an important milestone for the SCP. During the Sessions, the Council approved the updated WCO SRDT, while the occasion also provided an opportunity to showcase new knowledge products and strengthen engagement with Members.
Updated WCO Study Report on Disruptive Technologies
The Council approved the updated WCO SRDT, one of the Smart Customs Project's flagship deliverables. The updated report reflects the latest developments in disruptive technologies relevant to Customs and incorporates findings from recent research, Member surveys, and study missions. It provides Customs administrations with an updated reference to support strategic planning and the responsible adoption of advanced technologies.
New deliverables released on the Smart Customs Community Portal
Ahead of the Council Sessions, the SCP completed a unified visual identity for its project deliverables, introducing a consistent cover and back-cover design across all publications. The SCP also published the latest Blockchain deliverables on the Smart Customs Community Portal, together with four new in-depth case studies based on previous study missions to Brazil, Mauritius, Switzerland and the United Arab Emirates. Strengthening engagement with Members during the Council Sessions
During the Council Sessions, the SCP team engaged with delegates at the booth of the Enforcement, Facilitation & Technology Sub-Directorate, showcasing the Project's latest deliverables and future Global Event of the SCP. The Council week also saw further growth of the Smart Customs Community, with several Members updating their participation in the Project, including Lesotho and Vietnam Customs, which nominated new National Contact Points.
