From 2 to 4 September 2025, the #WCO #SmartCustoms Project, funded by the Customs Cooperation Fund of China (CCF China), conducted a study mission at the Federal Office for Customs and Border Security (FOCBS) in Bern, Switzerland 🇨🇭, focusing on artificialintelligence (AI).

The mission was opened by members of the management board of the FOCBS, including Mr. Georges Dumont, Head of Risk Analysis and Analytics, and Mr. Norbert Zurwerra, Head of Digital Services, who emphasized Swiss Customs’ strong commitment to advancing digital transformation and sharing its experience with the international Customs community.

The mission underscores Switzerland’s institutional commitment to innovation and secure digital transformation in Customs. Building on the outcomes of this mission, the Smart Customs Project will prepare a Case Study on Swiss Customs’ AI practice, contributing to the update of the WCO Study Report on Disruptive Technologies and to the broader exchange of knowledge among WCO Members.
